2015 SC AUTOMOTIVE SUMMIT: ITIC Ride & Drive to showcase transportation innovation

By Charles Richardson

Mark your calendar for February 23-25, 2015. These three days will be pivotal in the continuing evolution of establishing Greenville, South Carolina as a major player in the world of advanced automotive research and innovation. The South Carolina Automotive Council will host the 4th Annual S.C. Automotive Summit presented by KPMG to an international delegation of industry leaders and executives from leading OEM’s, researcher institutions, as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. Featured in an exclusive Ride & Drive event on the first day of this globally impactful summit will be the International Transportation Innovation Center (ITIC), located in Greenville at the S.C. Technology & Aviation Center.

ITIC: revs up a one-of-a-kind test-bed infrastructure

Now in its second year of operation, the $40 million ITIC facility is an OEM-neutral research and testing infrastructure that brings together automotive research, engineering, manufacturing, and cluster creation in the dynamic southeast region of the U.S. “Everything you need for transportation innovation and research is right here at ITIC,” says Dr. Joachim G. Taiber, Research Professor and Institute Director at CU-ICAR. “The idea from the beginning was not to constrain the explanation of advanced transportation technologies into theoretical-centric presentations, but to showcase the latest automotive technology trends in practice and in a private, secure, applied context.”

In addition to the Monday, February 23, exclusive Ride & Drive Event (limited to 100 guests), new plans will be unveiled by Tilke GmbH engineers for a significant expansion to the existing test research and test-bed infrastructure. “We are very excited about the new expansion for 2015 and beyond,” says John Hopkins, ITIC Director. “Not only do we have a dynamic, existing testing infrastructure in place, we are going to significantly augment and expand our existing offering to accommodate the latest research and trends as it relates to transportation innovation.”

A full agenda on tap for the Automotive Summit

In addition to the ITIC Ride and Drive, the Automotive Summit will feature a busy agenda of speakers and presentations designed to excite and enrich the possibilities for global transportation research and technology. A couple of highlights include a Q&A with Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile company, and a Q&A with Automotive News Editor-in-Chief Keith Crain, the nation’s pre-eminent news organization covering the automotive industry. Bobby Hitt, the SC Department of Commerce Secretary is also scheduled to speak on Tuesday, February 24, at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville.
