A strategic hub with access to the world
The state of South Carolina is a major player at the international level and SCTAC is strategically located to give companies the global reach they need to succeed. With low corporate tax rates, affordable land, highly competitive wages, and low unionization, South Carolina is consistently recognized as a pro-business state. And the economy is booming - driven by advanced manufacturing, innovation, and research, particularly in the automotive and aviation industries. According to South Carolina Secretary of Commerce, Bobby Hitt, South Carolina "has recruited expansions of over 60 new projects in automotive fields in the past 30 months. The numbers are pretty significant: 9,000 new jobs and $5 billion worth of investment."
The state is home to major players such as Boeing, BMW, Michelin, Daimler Chrysler, Continental Tire, Bridgestone, Lockheed Martin, among others. What's more, these major OEM's are pulling in a long line of suppliers and manufacturers - literally hundreds of innovative, technology-driven companies in the state to support these global leaders.
South Carolina is home to more than 180 aerospace-related companies that employ nearly 20,000 people.
Some 250 automotive-related companies have operations in South Carolina:
including OEM's and expansive tier-one and tier-two suppliers.
The South Carolina Technology & Aviation Center is home to 99 companies, including giants such as Lockheed Martin, Michelin, and 3M. Greenville and the surrounding Upstate region offers an inviting blend of enticements - both economically and culturally - to meet the needs of today's aggressive market leaders.
